29 S’wakian athletes bag 5 gold, 8 silver, 10 bronze for M’sia at Cambodia Sea Games

KUCHING, May 23: A total of 29 Sarawakian athletes have contributed five gold, eight silver and 10 bronze medals for Malaysia at the Southeast Asian (Sea) Games 2023 hosted in Cambodia recently.

‘Iron lady’ Grace Wong Xiu Mei bagged gold in the women’s hammer throw event while Enrique Maccartney Harold and Kimberly Bong Qian Ping delivered men’s individual diving gold and women’s three-metre springboard diving gold, respectively.


Meanwhile, siblings Nur Humaira Abdul Karim and Nur Hidayah Abdul Karim secured two gold medals in taekwondo poomsae.

Humaira won the women’s single recognised poomsae while her younger sister delivered the mixed team recognised poomsae gold together with Ryan Loo.

These results were announced by Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah when presenting his ministerial winding-up speech at Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting here today.

“Over the years, Sarawak athletes have made names for Sarawak at international level. Recent outstanding performance in certain sports such as diving, athletic, golf, swimming and others, have brought pride to the people of Sarawak.

“In the recent 32nd Sea Games in Cambodia, there are 40 athletes from Sarawak representing Malaysia, and 23 of our athletes managed to grasp five gold, eight silver and 10 bronze medals,” he said. – DayakDaily
