SIBU, March 15: A 28-year-old man has been handed a life sentence by the High Court for drug trafficking.
Judge Datuk Christopher Chin also ordered the accused, Wee Ee Kai, 28, to be whipped 15 times for trafficking 695.63 grammes of methamphetamine at about 12pm on June 19, 2020 at a courier company in Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg.
The accused was charged under Section 39B(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under Section 39B(2) of the same Act.
The section carries a death sentence by hanging upon conviction or life in prison and 15 strokes of the cane.
Wee was represented by his counsel Daren Ling while DPP Musli Hamid prosecuted. — DayakDaily
