KUCHING, Aug 18: A 28-year-old man was sentenced to 11 months in prison by the Magistrate’s Court here today for assaulting his 16-year-old sister after she failed to respond to his call to buy a lighter.
The man pleaded guilty to the charge before Magistrate Nur Syaheeqa Nazwa Radzali. He was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 326A of the same law.
The incident occurred at about 8.30pm on June 28 at a house in Jalan Selangan Batu, Kampung Rampangi.
The court heard that the teenager was at a neighbour’s house when he called for her, but she did not respond.
He then went to the neighbour’s house, kicked her around the waist and pulled her back towards their home.
After they arrived at the house, he assaulted her again by kicking and punching her.
Investigations found that the incident likely began after the victim ignored his instruction to buy a lighter.
A medical examination later confirmed that the teenager suffered soft tissue injuries to her left temporal area and waist.
She subsequently lodged a police report, which led to his arrest on August 13.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Aidil Akmal Sharidan prosecuted the case, while the man was not represented by counsel. — DayakDaily
