28yo foreign man arrested in Jalan Bintulu-Bakun, four stolen motorcycles recovered

MIRI, March 4: A 28-year-old foreign man suspected of motorcycle theft was arrested on Monday evening (March 3), leading to the recovery of four stolen motorcycles.

The suspect was apprehended at around 5.15pm at an oil palm plantation along Jalan Bintulu-Bakun by a team from the Bintulu District Criminal Investigation Department (CID), in collaboration with the district’s CID unit and Batu Niah police’s Ronda Cegah Jenayah (RCJ) unit.

Upon arrival, officers conducted surveillance for about 20 minutes before spotting a suspicious individual riding a purple motorcycle without front or rear licence plates.

The man was identified as a suspect linked to a string of motorcycle thefts in Bintulu and Miri.

During the operation, conducted under Ops Lejang, the suspect attempted to flee but was swiftly subdued by police using reasonable force.

Investigations confirmed that the four recovered motorcycles had been reported stolen between 2023 and 2025 in both districts.

The case is being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code for vehicle theft. — DayakDaily
