KUCHING, May 27: A total of 287 damage complaints linked to the Centralised Wastewater Management System (Package 2) project have been resolved as of April 2025, says Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government (MPHLG) Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.

Responding to Tupong assemblyman, Dato Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, during his ministerial winding-up speech at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) sitting today, Dr Sim shared that the project had received 323 reports of alleged property damages.

Of these, three cases were still under repair, 29 pending or under negotiation with affected owners, while four were undergoing assessment.

“Most of the damages are to the extended areas, kitchen, car porch, and ground floor slab,” said Dr Sim.

According to him, the contractor had recently completed tunnelling and manhole construction works along Jalan Semarak, and had begun permanent repair works at one of the nearby affected properties. More repair teams would be deployed in stages to repair the rest.

The department had met with affected residents along with the contractor and project consultants to determine corrective actions for the affected properties.

“The department shall closely monitor the works and ensure that the works are done accordingly,” he said.

Package 2 of the Centralised Wastewater Management System project was launched in September 2017 to expand the sewerage network and connect more properties in areas such as Kampung Gita, Jalan Matang, Jalan Tun Abdul Rahman Yaakub, and Padungan.

This phase includes the construction of a second treatment module, extension of the underground sewer network, and additional household connections. The project is scheduled for completion by July 2025. –DayakDaily
