KUCHING, June 13: A 27-year-old man was killed when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a pickup truck at KM8 of Jalan Kota Samarahan–Sadong Jaya yesterday (June 12).
The victim from Kampung Tanjung Apong was pronounced dead at the scene following the incident, which occurred at 3.03pm.
According to TVS news report, Kota Samarahan District Police chief Superintendent Damataries Lautin said preliminary investigations revealed that the collision involved a pickup truck driven by a 37-year-old man who was travelling from Asajaya towards BDC.
“As the pickup was moving straight at the location, the motorcycle—coming from the opposite direction—suddenly veered into the lane, believed to have lost control before crashing into the pickup.
“As a result of the crash, the motorcyclist was confirmed dead at the scene at approximately 3.55pm and his body was sent to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) Forensic Unit for necessary procedure,” he said in a statement.
The pickup driver sustained only a bruise on his left hand.
Damataries added that the road is a two-lane, two-way stretch with good weather conditions and a dry, flat surface at the time of the incident.
Both vehicles have been taken to the Kota Samarahan Traffic Police Station for further investigation.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. — DayakDaily
