27yo man faces death penalty after getting caught with over 18kg of drugs

KUCHING, Aug 5: A 27-year-old unemployed man has claimed trial to four charges of drug trafficking, after getting caught carrying a total weight of over 18kg of dangerous drugs.

Spancer Senna Edwin Duwin, 27, was charged with four charges under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under Section 39B(2) of the same Act, which carries the death penalty or imprisonment for life with whipping of not less than 10 strokes if convicted.


High Court Judicial Commissioner Alexander Siew How Wai fixed Sept 5 for case management.

On Feb 26, he was found trafficking drugs such as methamphetamine and ketamine at various locations throughout the city, amounting to a total weight of 18,467.8g.

According to an earlier report, the accused was arrested by the police at Batu Kitang Cafe, where he was suspected to be carrying drugs to a house at Kampung Bumbok.

The drugs were hidden in rice and Chinese tea bags.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Musli Ab Hamid prosecuted while the accused was represented by counsels Steven Beti and Jerald Donald. — DayakDaily
