KUCHING, June 14: A local man was charged in the Magistrate’s Court here today for allegedly murdering his uncle by stabbing him with scissors in an incident that occurred in Kampung Haji Baki on June 3.

However, no plea was recorded from the accused, Mohd Khairulnizam Abdullah, 27, after the charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code was read before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi.

The section carries the death penalty or imprisonment for a term of 30 to 40 years if not sentenced to death, along with no less than 12 strokes of the cane.

According to the charge, he is accused of killing the 55-year-old victim in a house in Kampung Haji Baki, Jalan Batu Kitang, between 8.30 and 8.50pm on June 3.

The court has set July 24 for the case to be mentioned again.

Additionally, no bail was offered to the accused, and his remand was extended until the next mention date.

It is understood that during the incident, a fight broke out between the accused and the victim, resulting in the latter’s death after being stabbed with two pairs of scissors.

The deceased sustained injuries to the right side of his chest, left hand, and the left side of his back from the stabbings.

The incident was reportedly triggered by the accused, who was under the influence of drugs, becoming angry after being scolded by the victim for making noise at the back of the house.

The victim collapsed after being stabbed multiple times by the accused and was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is also understood that the accused has a criminal record, including an incident involving injury to his mother and involvement in drug abuse.

The case is being prosecuted by Prosecuting Officer ASP Arman Ibrahim, while the accused is unrepresented by legal counsel.

The investigation is being conducted by Investigating Officer Inspector Mohammad Fadini and Assistant Investigating Officer Sergeant Ridvaner Haddi. — DayakDaily
