KUCHING, Jan 13: A total of 272,500 children aged 5 to 11 in Sarawak are eligible for Covid-19 vaccination, says Deputy Chief Minister Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian.
Expecting the vaccination program to kickstart in the State next month, he said he is looking forward to its implementation by the Ministry of Health (MoH) through the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK).
Dr Sim, who is also Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) advisor, said Sarawak currently has the highest vaccination rate in Malaysia with 91.7 per cent of eligible adults and 87.9 per cent of adolescents fully vaccinated with two primary doses.
Among others in the country, Sarawak has also administered the most booster doses to 68.4 per cent of the eligible adult population in the State.
“In Malaysia, only 37.3 per cent of eligible adults have received their booster doses with Malacca at 50.3 per cent, Klang Valley at 42.3 per cent and Sabah at 15 per cent,” he said in a social post yesterday (Jan 12).
In terms of Covid-19 infectivity rate, Dr Sim who is also Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, said Sarawak has one of the lowest R0 in Malaysia.
The public was reminded, however, not to be complacent as the infectivity rate in Sarawak had steadily increased to 0.89 as at Jan 9, 2022 from 0.71 on Dec 28, 2021. — DayakDaily
