KUCHING, May 12: A total of 27 people from a longhouse in Nanga Skrang Ulu in Sri Aman District have tested positive for Covid-19, thus sparking the newly declared Nanga Skrang Cluster.
The Nanga Skrang Cluster is one of seven new clusters announced in Sarawak today.
The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its daily update on the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak, revealed that Nanga Skrang is a community cluster centred on a longhouse in Nanga Skrang Ulu in Sri Aman District.
As of today, a total of 66 individuals have been screened, with 28 people testing negative while 11 are still awaiting laboratory tests results.
All 27 positive cases linked to the cluster including the index case have been admitted into Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) Sri Aman, PKRC Betong and PKRC Serian for isolation and treatment.
In addition, SDMC disclosed that all close contacts have also been identified and moved into quarantine.
Meanwhile, of the remaining six new clusters identified today, Kuching recorded three involving housing areas namely Stapok Resettlement Scheme Cluster with 26 cases, Asia Villa Cluster (15 cases) and Jalan Rubber Cluster (12 cases); two linked to workplaces — Konsortium Bumi Cluster (8 cases) and Kemas Cluster (10 cases); and one linked to a budget hotel — Singgahsana Lodge Cluster (14 cases).
With these seven new clusters, the number of active clusters in Sarawak has ballooned to 83, from which nine clusters also recorded an increase in daily infections with a total of 39 cases.
They comprise the Sungai Duan Cluster which added 13 more cases; Jalan Stadium Negeri (11 cases); Mongkos Cluster (4 cases); Jalan Selirik Cluster, Melugu Cluster, Tanjong Kibong Cluster, Beladin Cluster and Tebedu Mawang Cluster (2 cases each); and Duranda Emas Cluster with one case. — DayakDaily
