KUCHING, Nov 4: The family of 26-year-old Vanessa Wong, who was reported missing in May this year, has appealed to the public to come forward with any information regarding her whereabouts.
Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Public Complaint Bureau (PBC) chief Milton Foo said according to the victim’s brother, the victim was believed to have travelled to Thailand before they lost contact with her.
He said that the family then lodged a missing person report with the police and took the initiative to seek the public’s assistance on social media on her whereabouts.
“Two weeks (June 4) after the post, they received a text message via WhatsApp from an unknown individual claiming to have custody of the victim, including showing the victim’s passport photo and demanding RM10,000 for her release.
“The individual also threatened to ‘sell’ the victim to Cambodia if the demand is not met. The victim’s family, however, did not make any payments,” he told a press conference held at Milton & Co. office in Tabuan Stutong today.
He said that at the moment, the claim could not be verified due to the lack of communication between the family and the individual.
He also said the police have referred the case to Bukit Aman Police Headquarters because there have been similar cases where people have gone missing when travelling abroad. — DayakDaily
