KUCHING, Dec 8: A total of 253 people participated in the FlashMob G2 Run 2.0 at the waterfront here today to raise awareness on environmental conservation.

Sarawak Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah officiated at the event, joining participants ranging from educators, childcare providers, NGOs, including friends and families.

The event, a combination of two programmes — the FlashMob 2.0 and G2 Run 2019, higlighted the importance of preserving and keeping the environment clean.

“The G2 (Go Green) objective is promoted in this event, where the participants do ‘plogging’ as they pick up rubbish while walking or running during the event.

“By doing so, the public would become well aware of how many waste (litters) people are disposing (indiscriminately),” said a statement from the organisers.

The programme also collaborated with the BABA (Bersih Awal, Bersih Akhir) project, which was introduced to preschools last year to create environment awareness and inculcating the value of appreciating and contributing to cleaning the environment.

A virtual run was also carried for participants outside Kuching, in which a total of 27 runners took part from Sibu, Mukah, Miri, Limbang, Melaka, Johor, Kelantan and Sabah. — DayakDaily
