SIBU, April 2: A total of 250 illegally felled mangrove logs were seized by Region 5 Marine Police in Sarikei yesterday.

In a statement, the Marine Police force said no arrest was made as at the time of the raid as there was no one around.

“Acting on information received from the public concerning the illegal felling of mangrove trees, an enforcement team led by an officer conducted a raid at Sungai Pangey area,” it said.


The team found 250 mangrove logs with no official stamp from the Forest Department, an offence under Sarawak Forestry Ordinance 2015.

“A police report has been lodged and the logs have been referred to Sarikei Forestry Department for further action,” it added. — DayakDaily
