25 new Covid-19 cases recorded throughout the country

KUCHING, Aug 16: A total of 25 new Covid-19 cases was recorded in the country as of today.

The Ministry of Health (MoH) disclosed in a press statement today 16 of these cases were imported, involving 11 Malaysians and five foreigners.

ā€œThe 16 imported cases are namely from Thailand (one), Hong Kong (one), Indonesia (two), India (two), Saudi Arabia (three), Pakistan (two), Yemen (one), Lebanon (one), United Kingdom (one) and Japan (one),ā€ the statement read.


MoH also revealed that nine local transmission cases were recorded, involving seven Malaysians and two foreigners.

The local transmission cases were recorded in Kedah (five cases from the Tawar cluster), Sabah (one case), Pulau Pinang (one case, also from Tawar cluster).

ā€œTwo other local transmission cases involving foreigners were also detected in Kuala Lumpur, which was the result of a random screen test by the district health office involving an eatery worker.

ā€œThe district health office will be conducting active case tracing and further investigation, including taking samples, and the eatery has also been closed down temporarily for decontamination and cleaning purpose,ā€ the ministry added.

On the same note, MoH revealed a total of 28 Covid-19 cases has fully recovered as of today, bringing the total number of recovered Covid-19 cases to 8,859 (96.3 per cent of total cases).

ā€œCurrently, seven positive Covid-19 cases are being treated in Intensive Care Unit (ICUs), with two of them in need of respiratory assistance, bringing the total active cases in the country to 216 cases, and they have been isolated.

ā€œAs of today, no fatality involving Covid-19 was recorded and the death toll remains at 125 cases (1.36 per cent of total cases),ā€ the statement read. ā€” DayakDaily
