SIBU, June 12: A 24-year-old housewife has been arrested for allegedly cheating 10 victims involving a total loss of RM23,407 by offering to sell them jewellery.

Sibu District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner (ACP) Zulkipli Suhaili said the suspect was detained by a team from the Commercial Crime Investigation Division of the District Police Headquarters (IPD) at a house in Sibujaya at 11pm last Thursday.

He said the suspect is believed to have deceived all the victims through a non-existent jewellery purchase scheme.

“The victims have made cash payments in installments to the suspect’s account from August 2021 until May 2022.

“However, until now, all the victims have not received the gold jewellery as promised,” he said in a statement today.

Zulkipli explained that the suspect would often give excuses for not delivering the promised jewellery.

“Two investigation papers under Section 420 of the Penal Code have been opened,” he said, adding that the suspect will be remanded for four days until June 14 to assist in the investigation. — Dayakdaily
