KUCHING, Dec 15: Police have arrested a 23-year-old man suspected of murdering a woman in Tabuan Jaya.
Kuching District Police Chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said that the arrest was made yesterday (Dec 14), and the suspect has been remanded for seven days until Dec 22, 2024, by the Kuching Magistrate’s Court.
“During the course of the investigation, police discovered a partially decomposed body in a drainage area along Jalan Setia Raja, Kuching, last night (Dec 14).
“Efforts to identify the victim and conduct an autopsy are currently underway to assist with the investigation,” he said in a statement today.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
ACP Mohd Farhan reminded the public not to speculate or spread unverified information, as it could disrupt the ongoing investigation.
He also appealed to anyone with information about the case to contact the Kuching District Police Control Centre at 082-24444 or Senior Investigating Officer ASP Tan Kian Kok at 010-5661576.
The victim was identified as 26-year-old Nurul Asikin Lan.
According to a social media post by the victim’s cousin, Nurul Asikin was believed to have gone missing 10 days ago (Dec 5) after going out with a man she recently met. Her body was subsequently found in a drainage area in Tabuan Jaya. –DayakDaily
