“On May 22 at the Kabong health clinic, the victim, who is a Form 5 student, came for an examination after complaining of swollen legs and having missed her menstrual period for five months.

“An examination conducted revealed that the victim was 35 weeks pregnant, prompting the medical officer to lodge a police report for further action,” he said.

He said that preliminary investigations found that the victim admitted to having engaged in sexual relations with her boyfriend around October last year at the Tanjung Kembang Beach in Kabong.

The victim is to be referred to a specialist clinic at Sarikei Hospital on May 28 for further examination.

The victim and suspect have known each other for about a year through Facebook. Following detainment, the suspect admitted to having had sexual relations with the victim twice at the beach.

The case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code, and the suspect is currently being held at the Saratok police station lock-up pending a remand application. — DayakDaily
