220 illegal logs, equipment worth RM425,750 seized in sawmill raid

The logs and equipment seized from the unlicensed sawmill.

BETONG, Nov 14: Police have seized 220 logs with unpaid royalty and equipment worth almost half a million from an unlicensed sawmill in Debak.

Marine Police Region 5 commander, ACP Shamsol Kassim, said enforcement officers carried out an inspection at the sawmill around 2.30pm yesterday.

“During the inspection, the sawmill was in operation and the owner failed to produce any valid licence for their operations.

“Officers found a total of 220 logs, alleged to have been obtained illegally because there were no Sarawak Forestry and tax mark on it,” he said in a statement here yesterday.

All the confiscated logs and factory equipment, as well as the factory owner, were detained for violation under the Sarawak Forestry Ordinance 2015.

“The case was handed over to Sri Aman Forestry Department for further action,” he continued. — DayakDaily
