MIRI, Aug 18: Some 21 unused vehicles were destroyed in a fire that broke out at a car workshop at Jalan Krokop 5 last night (Aug 17).
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak said that swift intervention managed to safeguard 300 barrels of engine lubricants from being consumed by flames as the fire spread towards an adjacent oil storage shop.
Firefighters successfully extinguished the blaze, averting a more potentially catastrophic inferno.
Responding to the distress call at 9.38pm, firefighting units from Miri Central Station collaborated with the Lutong Station and swiftly arrived at the scene.
It is estimated that 30 per cent of the front portion of the workshop was damaged by the fire.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported in connection with the incident.
Currently, the cause of the fire and the extent of the overall loss are being investigated by Bomba.
A water tanker from Lopeng Station was also deployed to aid in the availability of water resources for the operation.
Police officers and personnel from Sesco were also present on site. — DayakDaily
