JULAU, Aug 25: A 20-year-old man has been arrested for shooting a four-wheel-drive on Thursday.
Julau District Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent (DSP) Andam Sulin said today that the suspect was detained in Pakan around 5.30pm yesterday.
“The suspect had acted out of revenge after one of his girlfriend’s family members was against him courting the girl,” he said.
The incident was reported by a man who complained that his son’s four-wheel-drive was shot at on the driver’s side while returning home in Sungai Pinang, Jalan Wak Buku in Pakan at 10.45pm the night before.
“Acting on information received, a team of officers and policemen from the Criminal Investigation Department (JSJ) D9 Sarawak Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK) and JSJ Julau team have successfully arrested the suspect and seized two Bakakuk-type shotgun barrels and two homemade air rifle barrels,” he said.
The suspect is being remanded for four days at the Julau Police Station to assist investigations under Section 307 of the Penal Code.
DSP Andam advised the public not to take the law into their own hands.
He also advise the public not to possess homemade firearms which are illegal under the Firearms Act 1960.
“If convicted, a prison sentence of not more than seven years or a fine of not more than RM10,000 or both can be imposed,” he said. — DayakDaily
