209 schools in Kuching to close from Oct 30 to Nov 13

MOE statement on 209 schools in Kuching to close from Oct 30 to Nov 13.

KUCHING, Oct 29: A total of 209 primary and secondary schools including with boarding facility in Kuching will be closed for two weeks starting tomorrow (Oct 30) until Nov 13.

As the closure will affect boarding schools, parents or guardians of students are advised to take them home.

This measure is implemented after Kuching has been reclassified as a Covid-19 red zone two days ago following a spike in cases with emergence of new clusters.

Ministry of Education (MOE), in a media statement, informed that the closure will involved all schools under the Ministry as well as Teachers Education Institutes (IPGs), matriculation colleges and private schools.

“For students in boarding schools waiting for their parents to pick them up or students who want to remain in boarding school during the entire school closure period, will be placed under the care of the boarding school warden.

“The students’ need during the period, including food and drinks, will be provided by the school or education institution,” it said.

For students sitting for international examinations scheduled during the closure period, MOE added that they will need to obtain letter from their respective schools to sit for their exams.

During the closure period, MOE said that the school and education institution administration has been instructed to ensure teachers, educators as well as students continue with home teaching and learning.

“The teaching and learning manuals can be downloaded from the ministry’s website,” it added.

The list of schools to be closed will be updated from time to time and can be downloaded from MOE website at www.moe.gov.my and KPM official social media platform.—DayakDaily
