200 Long Lama residents receive first Covid-19 vaccine dose

LONG LAMA, June 3: Some 200 residents in Telang Usan District have received their first dose of Covid-19 vaccine today.

According to a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) report, most of the recipients were from elderly and high-risk groups in villages and longhouses near Long Lama including Kampung Kayan, Long Lama and Kampung Cina.

They arrived at the SJK(C) Kee Tee school hall vaccination centre as early as 8am while accompanied by their family members.

The positive response towards the Covid-19 vaccination exercise showed that awareness on the importance of getting vaccinated to curb the spread of Covid-19 among communities in Telang Usan District was high.

The vaccination process today was carried out smoothly with high compliance with standard operating procedures (SOP) by those present.

Meanwhile, Telang Usan is the only district in Sarawak classified as a Covid-19 green zone, that is free from Covid-19. The district has not reported any local cases in over 14 days.

Of the 40 districts in Sarawak, 30 districts are currently classified as Covid-19 red zones while three districts are orange zones namely Song, Sebauh and Kabong. The six districts currently classified as yellow zones are Lawas, Daro, Tebedu, Limbang, Matu and Lundu. — DayakDaily
