SIBU, June 12: A total of 200 housing units under the Tanjung Manis Resettlement Scheme will be built soon.
“These houses are not only for staff of Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (Pusaka) but also for residents in Tanjung Manis,” said Deputy Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment, Datuk Len Talif Salleh.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the Central Region Pusaka 50th anniversary celebration here last night, he explained that local residents include those working in other industries in Tanjung Manis that are eligible to apply for the house.
“We can see many people working in Tanjong Manis and most of them come from outside. Some also have grandchildren and consider Tanjung Manis as their hometown. That’s why we developed this resettlement scheme for them,” he stressed.
Priority however will be given to those in need of housing whether they are Pusaka staff, residents or staff of other government departments.
Len Talif said Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg had agreed to allocate RM20 million for the project to be built under the same concept as the Rumah Spektra Permata (RSP) scheme.
The project includes the construction of infrastructure, facilities and basic amenities like water and electricity.
“God willing, we will start the project soon. It will be located close to other residential areas in Tanjung Manis—we have quarters and Pusaka houses. This is where we will develop the project,” he said. — DayakDaily
