2 suspects remanded in connection with Batu Kawah murder

KUCHING, Nov 8: Two individuals, aged 19 and 28, have been remanded for five days by the Magistrate’s Court in connection with a murder case that unfolded in Batu Kawah on October 30.

The suspects were presented before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali, with the police seeking their remand under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The magistrate issued the remand order for the two suspects, which will be in effect until November 13.


Initially investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code, which pertains to voluntarily causing hurt to others, the case has been reclassified under Section 302 of the Penal Code following the victim’s demise.

The victim, 51, who was employed at a hotel near Batu Kawah, was assaulted by a group of men outside the hotel around 12:30am on October 30. The brutal attack resulted in severe injuries, including a fatal brain injury.

In the immediate aftermath of the incident, the victim’s daughter rushed her father to Sarawak General Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries.

The two suspects were apprehended on October 7 at approximately 9.15am. — DayakDaily
