SIBU, Oct 18: Two men aged 24 and 45 have been arrested for having more than 700 litres of illicit diesel worth RM131,500 in their possession.

The police believe that the duo were involved in selling this subsidised diesel at industrial price to make a profit.

Sibu district police chief, ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said at about 8.30pm on Monday, a team of marine police was conducting ‘Ops Kontraband’ at Jalan Tuanku Osman when they spotted two four-wheel drives in a suspicious manner.

“An inspection of the two vehicles revealed that they were carrying more than 700 litres of diesel. The two suspects failed to show proof that they have permit to carry such a large volume of diesel,” he said.

He added that investigation also showed that the two men were believed to have collected a large volume of diesel and later sold it at the industrial price.

“The two men have been referred to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) Sibu Division for investigation and further action,” he added. ā€” DayakDaily
