2 men arrested in Miri, drugs worth over RM600,000 seized

KUCHING, April 15: Police arrested two men in Miri and seized RM630,250 worth of drugs.

Sarawak Commissioner of Police Dato Mancha Ata, in a statement today, said the first suspect, aged 26, was arrested on April 11 at 10pm, in front of an entertainment centre in Miri together with 31.73 grammes (g) of Syabu.


According to him, following a lead from the first suspect, a team of police later arrested the second suspect, aged 33, at a condominium in Miri and seized 16,197g of Syabu (Methamphetamine), 198g of Ketamine, and 3,750 Erimin 5 pills.

ā€œPolice also confiscated a Proton Wira worth RM10,000 and a watch worth RM5,000.

ā€œInitial urine test conducted found that both suspects are positive for Methamphetamine and Amphetamine,ā€ he said.

Mancha said that the first suspect has four previous criminal records under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, while the second suspect has a total of 12 previous criminal records, six under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and another six records under the Penal Code.

He also said that 85,194 drug users can use the drugs seized.

ā€œThe modus operandi employed by the syndicate involved acquiring drug supply from West Malaysia, which is then distributed in Miri, and the suspects are paid between RM2,000 and RM5,000 monthly.

ā€œBoth suspects are remanded for six days under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CPC) starting April 12 until 18 to facilitate investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,ā€ he added. ā€” DayakDaily
