2 dead, including 12yo disabled child after rented house in Fortune Park in Bintulu razed by fire

The first house was completely destroyed in the incident.

KUCHING, Feb 17: A tragic fire in Fortune Park, Bintulu, claimed the lives of two individuals, including a 12-year-old child with a disability.

According to a report from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operation centre, after receiving call from the Malaysian Emergency Rescue Services (EMRS) 999 regarding the incident at 4.05am, firefighters from Bomba Bintulu were rushed to the scene.

The operation commander reported that the first unit of a two-storey terrace house was completely destroyed, while the second unit suffered partial damage.


Upon learning that two victims were trapped on the top floor of the first house, firefighters worked swiftly to extinguish the flames and gained control of the situation by 4.43am.

Tragically, the bodies of the deceased were found beneath the debris by firefighters during overhaul work. The bodies were later handed over to the police and Ministry of Health (MOH) personnel for further action.

Ten other tenants from both houses managed to escape to safety, while the cause of the fire remains under investigation. — DayakDaily
