SIBU, March 31: A 40-year-old man died after the motorcycle he was riding crashed into the rear of a car which had stopped abruptly as it had run out of fuel at Jalan Deshon.
Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said during the 4.25am accident yesterday, the victim, Chow Wei Yee, 40, of Lorong Ulu Sungai Merah, was travelling from Ulu Sungai Merah to Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman.
Supt Alexson said as it was dark, the victim failed to notice the car which had stopped in the middle of the road.
“The victim was rushed to Sibu hospital by a member of the public but died from his injuries at 6.07am,” he said.
In another fatal accident, two motorcyclists collided head-on at about 12.55pm yesterday at Jalan Chew Kung.
One of them, Johny Sia Mee Hu, 46, from Sungai Dassan succumbed to serious head injuries and died on the spot. The other man, 50, suffered injuries to his chin and knee.
“Both men were not wearing helmets at the time of the accident. The younger man suffered head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics from Sibu Hospital,” he said.
Both cases are being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987. — DayakDaily
