KUCHING, May 9: Two adults who were reported missing in the forest near Kampung Belimbing A, Serian were safely rescued this evening following a coordinated search and rescue operation.
The victims, 55-year-old man and 40-year-old woman, were found unharmed after they lost their way while returning from their farm.
According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the duo had entered the forest at around 9am but were unable to locate their way back, prompting them to send a distress message via WhatsApp.
A distress call was received at 5.19pm, and a team from the Serian Fire and Rescue Station (BBP Serian), led by Operation Commander Rosnani Malong, was immediately dispatched.
The rescue team arrived at the location, approximately 16 kilometers from their station, at 6.05pm.
The search and rescue operation involved five Bomba personnel, along with two police officers, two RELA members, and four local villagers.
Guided by the GPS coordinates shared by the victims, the team successfully located the pair at 7.02pm, about 4.4 kilometers from the main road.
The victims were safely escorted out of the forest and handed over to the police for further action.
No injuries were reported. – DayakDaily
