KUCHING, Mar 6: The 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) case must continue, said Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing who believed that Malaysia Anti-corruption Commission (MACC) chief Latheefa Koya’s resignation should not put a stop to the case.
Masing was responding to new of Latheefaās resignation which she announced today.
āAs one of the administrators in the State of Sarawak, I am very happy to note that MACC is still pursuing the alleged transferred of 1MDB money overseas including other funds with dubious sources deposited in overseas banking institutions.
āThis must be pursued without fear and favour. I wish Latheefa Koya all the best in her pursuit in other career and interests,ā said Masing who is also Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president.
Latheefa stated that on Monday (Mar 2, 2020) she had submitted her letter of resignation to Muhyiddin where she also sought the approval of the King.
āIt was my own decision to do so. Speculations that pressure was brought upon me are baseless. My intention is to return to my practice as a human rights advocate.
āYesterday, I met the Honorable Prime Minister and explained to him my decision to resign. We had a very cordial discussion and he understands my position.
āI also briefed the Prime Minister about our ongoing actions and efforts for the recovery of the stolen 1MDB monies from abroad. He was fully supportive of these actions.
āI also took the opportunity to wish him and the new government every success in advancing the welfare and best interests of the people,ā said Letheefa in a statement today. āDayakDaily
