1MDB funds: MACC urged to be fair

Tan Sri James Masing

KUCHING, June 24: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president Tan Sri James Jemut Masing says that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) should require all political organisations chiefs to pay back all they owe to 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

In a statement yesterday, Masing said that MACC should be fair in their investigations and that this includes holding the respective heads of United Malay National Organistion (Umno) of Kedah and Johor at the time to account.

“The Umno Chief of Kedah was Dato Sri Mukhriz Mahathir who was the Menteri Besar and Umno Johor (chief) was the former Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Datuk Muhyiddin Muhammad Yassin,” disclosed Masing.

Masing made this call in response to MACC’s recent announcement that it had filed a civil forfeiture suit against individuals and entities to recover RM270 million belonging to 1MDB which was dispersed from the personal bank account of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

He believed Mukhriz and Muhyiddin as the chiefs of Umno Kedah and Johor respectively could have received a lot of funds and urged MACC to do a fair investigation.

“Selective persecution mustn’t be allowed,” he said. — DayakDaily
