KUCHING, June 9: Social interactions and close contacts have spawned Covid-19 outbreaks among three families from Kampung Sinar Budi Baru here with 19 people infected so far, thus triggering the Kampung Sinar Budi Baru Cluster in Kuching.

This is one of two new Covid-19 clusters declared in Sarawak today.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its daily update on the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak, revealed that the community cluster emerged as a result of social interactions and close quarters involving the three families in the village.

As of today, a total of 38 individuals have been screened, with 19 testing negative and no cases pending lab test results.

All positive cases have been referred to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and a Covid-19 Assessment Centre (CAC) as well as admitted to SGH and the Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) Kuching for isolation and treatment.

As nearly 20 local cases have been identified in the area, SDMC has ordered Kampung Sinar Budi Baru to be placed under an Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) from tomorrow (June 10) until June 23.

Meanwhile, the second new cluster dubbed Kampung Hilir Lingga Cluster was detected in Sri Aman with 23 positive cases.

The Sarawak State Health Department also declared the end of the Stapok Resettlement Scheme Cluster in Kuching today after no new cases were reported in the last 28 days.

Currently, there are 76 active clusters remaining in Sarawak, out of which six clusters recorded an increase of 73 cases today.

The clusters are Jalan Coastal Bintulu-Miri in Bintulu which added 54 more cases, Muara Tabuan in Kuching (9) while Banting in Sri Aman and Jalan Kampung Yoh in Sebauh picked up four cases each, and Sungai Selangan in Sarikei and Jalan Jambusan Sunchar in Bau added one case each. — DayakDaily
