19 fishermen in Serian receive RM2,000 worth of fishing equipment under BIPPN

The fishermen from Kampung Munggi Kopi, Kampung Lintang Baru and Kampung Tanah Puteh received a total of RM38,000 in assistance on Friday.

KUCHING, Oct 9: A total of 19 fishermen in Serian have received RM2,000 worth of fishing equipment each from the Sarawak government under the Fisherman’s Fishing Equipment Input Assistance (BIPPN).

According to a news report from the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) today, Assistant Minister of Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn encouraged any individuals who have yet to register themselves as an inland fisherman to do so with the Department of Agriculture Sarawak (in order to received the BIPPN benefits).

“This is because there are certain conditions have been set by the government in order to qualify as an inland fisherman,” he said during the handing over ceremony for BIPPN for Tarat constituency held in Kampung Munggu Kopi Hall on Friday.


Sagah, who is also Tarat assemblyman, said other benefit of a registered inland fisherman is that they also receive a RM250 monthly allowance assistance from the Federal government.

“Apart from that, the Sarawak government would also provide a RM300 monthly assistance to the registered fishermen during the monsoon season,” he added.

Earlier, the BIPPN assistance, which totalled RM38,000, were presented through the Sarawak Agriculture Department to fishermen from Kampung Munggi Kopi, Kampung Lintang Baru and Kampung Tanah Puteh. — DayakDaily
