18 people from 3 households relocated due to flood in Lawas

KUCHING, Dec 5: A total of 18 people have been relocated to a temporary evacuation center due to flood in Lawas today.

State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) secretariat head Major Ismail Mahedi from Sarawak Civil Defence Force said a temporary flood evacuation center was opened at Trusan Community Hall at 11am.

“Three families from Kampung Seberang Kedai and Kampung Gelapas have been relocated to the shelter as of 12pm today,” he said in a statement.


He also said that five schools in Lawas – SK Luagan, Sk Siang-Siang, SK Trusan, SK Ulu Merapok and SK Soon Hwa Sundar – had also been affected by flood after water levels rose to about 1 meter in depth as of 9am this morning.

Meanwhile, Ismail also noted that in Baram district, SK Kuala Bok also saw a rise of flood water to about 1 meter.

“However, no incidents have been reported as the schools was not in operation due to year-end holidays,” he added. —DayakDaily
