KUCHING, May 19: Eighteen longhouses in Baleh constituency will receive electricity supply through the Rural Electricity Scheme (RES) Last Miles by the first quarter of next year.
Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Sarawak (Utility) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said the ongoing Second Phase of Last Miles project involved Rh Agang Ng Stekam, Rh Wong Pulau Won, Rh Jimbun Pulau Won, Rh Bawang (Rh Sumbang) Selaut, Rh Jimbun Ulak Tapang, Rh Lamau, Rh Unggang Ng Seranggil, Rh Weng, Rh Bangkong, Rh Timorthy (Rh Balai), and Rh Ason.
The remaining longhouses are currently being implemented under the Fourth Phase of the Last Miles project, namely, Rh Ajut Ng Semawang, Rh Panyau (Panggau) Ng Kemali, Rh Biduk Ng Bunyau, Rh John Kerangan Ara, Rh Sana Ng Setaba, Rh Steward Sambang Ng Sebetong, and Rh Gon Ng Serian Bt Tung.
“The ongoing projects would benefit 436 households, namely 252 households in the Second Phase of the Last Miles project and 184 households in the Fourth Phase,” he said in response to Nicholas Kudi Jantai (GPS-Baleh) during the question-and-answer session at Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting here today.
Meanwhile, he said two more projects are currently in the planning stage involving four longhouses that will be implemented through the off-grid Sarawak Alternative Rural Electrification Scheme (SARES) and three more longhouses implemented through RES Last Miles Scheme.
These projects are expected to start in the third quarter of this year.
Additionally, he pointed out that the RES Last Miles Scheme project, which is currently in the planning stage, would involve a cost of RM29 million. — DayakDaily
