KUCHING, June 27: Some 170 free lunch sets have been distributed to the needy at the Mom’s Laksa eatery in Jalan Astana here today.

The free treats were initiated by the Sarawak Housing Estate and Real Developers’ Association (Sheda) Kuching Branch in efforts to provide readily-available food to those who are affected during the Movement Control Order (MCO) especially the working class that depended mostly on instant food.

Samariang assemblywoman Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, who was present to hand over the lunch sets, expressed her gratitude to Sheda and Mom’s Laksa for the noble gesture in complementing the State government’s efforts to assist the people during the MCO.

“I think this is such a good collaborative initiative and we really welcome it.

“As we know, the State government under the Sarawakku Sayang Special Assistance (BKSS) initiative has helped the community a lot during this worrying situation including the allocation of food baskets which have been distributed to about 5,000 households in Samariang constituency alone.

“Therefore, we are also very grateful to have good samaritans coming from among the corporate sector, traders and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to give back to the community who are in need during this unprecedented time,” she told reporters.

Hasidah further urged more corporate members and associations to come forward and lend a hand to assist the community who are badly affected by the MCO.

She also hoped for the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (Pick) in Sarawak to run smoothly so that the State can achieve its target to vaccinate at least 70 per cent of the total population by August this year.

Also present during the event were Sheda secretary general Angie Kueh, Sheda Kuching Branch chairman Datuk Sim Kiang Chiok and Mom’s Laksa owner Mastika Jamali. — DayakDaily
