17 individuals, 2 premises operators fined RM42,500 total for breaching SOP in Sibu

SIBU, Nov 27: 17 individuals have been compounded a total of RM42,500 for not adhering to the standard operating procedure (SOP) of Phase 3 of the National Recovery Plan last night.

Sibu district acting police chief Supt Collin Babat said 15 of the 17 persons who were customers of two eateries received a compound of RM1,500 each, while the two operators of the eateries received a heavier compound of RM10,000 each.

He said at about 10.30pm, an integrated SOP monitoring team led ASP Kushairy Bujang visited a cafe and a food court to carry out a routine inspection.

“The 15 individuals were found to have not been observing physical distancing. When questioned, they said it was not necessary,” he said.

As for the two operators, Supt Collin said they had failed to impose the SOP in their premises.

The compounds were issued to the 15 under Regulation 17 (1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2021 while those of the two operators were under 17 (2) of the same Regulation. — DayakDaily
