Miri City to hold inaugural car-free day on Saturday, July 16

MIRI, July 5: Preparations are underway for Miri City’s inaugural car-free day on Saturday, July 16.

Scheduled to kick off at 6am, the event will be held along North Yu Seng Road, opposite Miri Wireless Walk.

Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah is expected to grace the event which will also feature various recreational and arts activities.

The event is a collaboration between Miri Division Resident’s Office and Miri City Council with Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Sarawak Tourism Board (STB), Masterpiece Cycling Club, Transformer Fitness Bootcamp (FTB) and Greatfitness Studio.

The event aims to give walkers, joggers, skateboarders, rollerbladers and cyclists a chance to use the road freely, with no motor vehicles allowed during the event.

Among activities which will be carried out throughout the event are a bicycle decorating contest, Zumba session and various other fitness activities.

The event also aims to promote a healthy and green lifestyle by reducing the rate of carbon emissions into the air.

The roads that will be closed on the day are Jalan North Yu Seng, Jalan Parry, Jalan Post, Jalan Haji Lampam and Jalan Persekutuan from 6am to 10am.

Due to the road closure, road users are advised to comply with instructions on signboards provided to assist the implementation and smooth running of this programme. — DayakDaily
