16 in Kuching contract Covid-19 after burial ceremony visit in Sri Aman

KUCHING, June 18: Crossing district to attend a close relative’s burial ceremony in Sri Aman has caused the spread of Covid-19 to 16 individuals in Kampung Sungai Agas Lama, Jalan Matang here.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the community cluster, dubbed the Kampung Sungai Agas Cluster, was detected involving several families in a settlement in the village.


Investigations found that the virus infection was later spread to family members and social contacts at Kampung Sungai Alas Lama.

“A total of 30 individuals were screened where 16 cases were positive including the index case, eight were negative and six more samples are waiting for laboratory test results,” said the committee in a statement on Covid-19 update today.

SDMC also assured that all positive cases were admitted to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and the Kuching Low-Risk Treatment and Quarantine Centre (PKRC) for isolation and treatment purposes.

Meanwhile, Sarawak also reported another new cluster involving a private cleaning company at Jalan Stapang, hence the name Jalan Sungai Tapang Cluster, which registered 31 Covid-19 cases so far.

With the Sungai Duan Cluster in Duan announced to be expired today, there are 93 active clusters remaining in the whole of Sarawak. — DayakDaily
