KUCHING, Oct 31: A 15-year-old boy was charged at the Magistrate’s Court here today for causing hurt to his father with a brick because his father was unable to buy a new mobile phone for him.
The teenager pleaded guilty to the charge before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi.
The magistrate set November 30 to review the probation report for the teenager, who was charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code, read in conjunction with Section 326A of the Penal Code. If convicted, the charge carries a potential sentence of up to 10 years in jail, a fine, or whipping.
Zubaidah also granted the teenager bail in the amount of RM3,000, with one of his parents acting as a surety.
The incident occurred on August 6, 2023, around 11am at the family’s residence in Sungai Maong, Green Road.
According to the case details, the teenager had informed his father that he had lost his mobile phone and asked his father to buy him a new one. However, his father explained that he lacked the financial means to purchase a new mobile phone for him.
In response to his father’s refusal, the boy flew into a fit of anger and hurled a red brick at his father, causing swelling on the right side of the man’s head.
Concerned for his safety, the father filed a police report, leading to his son’s arrest at approximately 11.50pm on the same day.
The case was prosecuted by Inspector Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin, while the teenager was not represented by legal counsel. — DayakDaily
