KUCHING, April 30: Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) is extending its Ambassadorship Programme to 1,500 participants from the Sarawak Civil Service, after the success of the same programme in 2020.
Sarawak Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the programme, themed ‘Embrace and Act Tourism’ would begin its second phase from May to October this year.
“Our objective is to instill a sense of ownership among State Civil Service members on Sarawak’s tourism attractions. We strongly encourage our State Civil Service to see themselves as custodians of our State’s development, entrusted with the vital task of promoting tourism.
“By motivating civil service members to take ownership of our tourism assets and share them enthusiastically with others, we would be able to maximise the power of sharing and cultivate a deep sense of pride among all of us.
“This sense of pride will not only enhance our commitment in promoting tourism but also inspire others to do the same,” he said in a speech text read by Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (Tourism) Datuk Sebastian Ting during the launch of Sarawak Tourism Ambassadorship Programme held at Sarawak State Library here today.
Through the programme, each participant will equip themselves with comprehensive knowledge and insights into Sarawak’s tourism destinations and attractions, and subsequently become ambassadors who will help promote tourism not only to their friends and families, but also beyond.
Those interested can enroll via pandei.pustaka-sarawak.com, where they will embark on an online learning course encompassing a diverse range of topics.
Abdul Karim further said that in order to incentivise the participation of civil servants, those who complete the module within the stipulated period will receive an e-certificate, with exclusive STB Traveling Pouches.
The participants will also have the opportunity to win exciting rewards, including a package of a three-day and two-night (3D2N) Mulu National Park experience and 2D1N Staycations at selected City Hotels.
The first phase of Sarawak Tourism Ambassadorship Programme in 2020 involved 1,000 Grab Malaysia drivers who participated in an e-learning and e-hailing programme.
Also present were STB chairman Dato Dennis Ngau, Sarawak State Library’s Board of Management deputy chairman Datu Dr Rashidah Bolhassan, STB chief executive officer Sharzede Salleh Askor, and Sarawak State Library’s deputy chief executive officer (Operation) Wan Mazli Wan Razali. — DayakDaily
