SERIAN, July 11: A total of 150 underprivileged families in Serian Division today received food baskets under PETRONAS’ Uplifting Lives Gawai Dayak Celebration 2025 initiative.
Each food basket includes cooking oil, glutinous rice, canned food, condiments and local coffee.
Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn commended PETRONAS for its continuous efforts in supporting the underprivileged and said the initiative should serve as an example for other corporate entities to emulate.
“With the assistance provided, this programme not only helps ease the burden during the festive season but also brings joy to families celebrating Gawai together,” he said when officiating the event held at Kampung Tarat Melawi here.
Meanwhile, PETRONAS Sarawak general manager Norazibah Md Rabu informed that a total of 750 families across Sarawak have benefitted from the initiative this year, which is part of Yayasan PETRONAS’ social impact efforts aligned with the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030).
She said the recipients also included 400 families from Miri and Bintulu.
“Among our core focus areas at PETRONAS are community development, education and welfare, and we remain committed to this responsibility,” she said.
Norazibah added that today’s event marked the final leg of the Gawai Dayak food aid programme for this year, following a similar distribution at Kampung Anah Rais in Padawan.
Also present were Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Administration) Datu Buckland Bangik and Serian Resident Caroline Cleophas Joseph. – DayakDaily
