KUCHING, July 26: About 15 per cent of the Samarahan population has benefited from the Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) Community Pantry throughout its 18-day operation, said MPKS Community Pantry organising chairman Dato Cr Sim Kiang Chiok.
According to Sim, the success of the MPKS Community Pantry 1.0 and 2.0 are the results of the exemplary cooperation, collaboration as well as unity among the 14 supermarkets, including a food court premises, that took part in the efforts.
“The spirit of giving unconditionally to the Samarahan residents in need has shown the way to pull through the tough times by working together and being united to beat the pandemic.
“The total number of food aid distributed during the MPKS Community Pantry 1.0 and 2.0 throughout the 18 days of operation would have served at least 15 per cent of the Samarahan population or 30,480 individuals with 7,620 food packs,” he said in a statement today.
On the same note, Sim also conveyed his gratitude to Minister of Local Government and Housing, Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian; Minister of Tourism, Art, Culture, Youth and Sport Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah; Minister of Welfare, Community Well Being, Women, Family and Childhood Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah and Kota Samarahan MP Rubiah Wang.
Sim said their visit to the Community Pantry and their encouragement had lifted the spirit of the partners and the residents in Samarahan to pull through this trying time together.
“Apart from that, the generosity by our partners is second to none as they are willing to answer our call of help almost instantaneously to help the hungry due to Covid-19 lockdown.
“Both I and MPKS chairman Dato Peter Minos, would like to express our most sincere and heartfelt thank you to all the supermarkets who were the partners in the event in giving out food ration and meal aid unconditionally to anyone who needed the assistance.
“An unprecedented event has created an unprecedented collaboration of assistance from supermarkets in Samarahan,” he added.
The 14 participating supermarkets and food court are Sen Sen, Farley, Lepapa, H&L, Emart, CS, Unaco, Choice, BB ,Ellie, Everwin, Teck Kong, Aiman Mall, Everrise Supermarkets and MakanSari Food Court.
