KUCHING, Oct 25: The number of new daily Covid-19 cases in Sarawak doubled to 16 today compared to eight yesterday, with 15 recorded in Kuching and one in Serian.

In a press statement today, the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) revealed that this brings the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak to 796.

From today’s new cases, seven cases are domestic imported cases from high risk areas, three cases are from the Baki Cluster, four are from a new cluster called the Seladah Cluster, and two were men who frequented a longhouse in Sematan, Lundu during weekends.

As for the seven domestic imported cases, SDMC disclosed all the patients boarded the same flight from Peninsular Malaysia to Sarawak on Oct 14 and were checked into to a quarantine centre upon arrival.

Their second Covid-19 swab test results on Oct 23 returned positive and they were sent to Sarawak General Hospital for further medical treatment.

Meanwhile, the three cases from the Baki Cluster were identified as a result of active case detection from close contacts.

They are a family of three — a couple and their child who is a student of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Wira Penrissen.

For the new cases in the Seladah Cluster, three are from close family contacts while one was a customer of a kuih seller.

Meanwhile, the committee added, there was one patient who has recovered and was discharged from hospital.
