KUCHING, June 4: A cluster of 15 new Covid-19 cases linked to a bird nest business in Jalan Muara Tabuan here has prompted the Jalan Muara Cluster to be declared today.
The total number of active clusters in Kuching now stands at 16 as of today.
The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its daily updates on the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak, revealed that the workplace cluster stemmed from the community and had spread to workers in the bird nest premises.
A total of 108 individuals have been screened whereby 60 tested negative while 33 are still awaiting their lab test results.
All positive cases have been referred to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and admitted to the Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) Kuching for isolation and treatment.
SDMC also declared the end of two active clusters namely Sungau Banus in Selangau and Block D Jalan Pending in Kuching after no new local cases were reported in the last 28 days.
With that, there are a total of 77 active clusters in Sarawak, out of which 11 clusters recorded an increase in daily infections of 39 cases.
Kuching continues to top Sarawak’s Covid-19 daily tool for the seventh consecutive day today with 167 cases from the total of 706 cases reported in 31 districts across the State in the last 24 hours.
Of the remaining 15 active clusters in Kuching, the Muara Tabuan Cluster has the most cases at 249 out of which 181 are still receiving treatment.
The rest are the Jalan Stadium Negeri Cluster (total 64, active cases 9), Bako Hilir Cluster (total 21, active cases 0), Stapok Resettlement Scheme Cluster (total 32, active cases 3), Jalan Rubber Cluster (total 15, active cases 5), Singgahsana Lodge Cluster (total 14, active cases 0), Kampung Boyan Cluster (total 37, active cases 2), Jalan Sultan Tengah Cluster (total 6, active cases 0), Kenyalang Park Cluster (total 35, active cases 14), Jalan Simpang Tiga Cluster (total 56, active cases 17), Taman Sourabaya Indah Cluster (total 9, active cases 4), Jalan Jambatan Gantung Cluster (total 9, active cases 0), Kampung Semerah Padi Cluster (total 28, active cases 10), Jalan Sukma Cluster (total 11, active cases 9), Semariang Academy Cluster (total 15, active case 0), and Muara Tabuan Cluster (total 249, active cases 181).
In view of the surge of Covid-19 cases in Kuching and Samarahan, the health authorities have rushed to set up three additional PKRCs at the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) Hall in Petra Jaya, Dewan KBS and University Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas)’s Rafflesia College. — DayakDaily
