SIBU, Dec 23: Rajang Port Authority (RPA) has rebutted allegations by Sibu MP Oscar Ling of delays in the release of containers caused by crane breakdowns.

“The authority would like to inform that there had not been any delay in the delivery of containers from Rajang Port Authority, and definitely not up to 3 months,” said its general manager, Helen Lim in a statement today.

She explained that their machinery including the cranes had been deployed based on requirement as requested and confirmed by customers and port users during the previous days’ Gang Order.

“On 17 December 2021, one of the cranes deployed suffered a minor electrical fault detected at 3.30pm which rendered the crane not operational for 2 hours until 5.30pm; after which operation resumed as normal after the troubleshooting was completed. The interruption to the port operation hence was only 2 hours,” she said.

Lim also said to-date, there had not been any other interruption to the port’s operation and delivery of containers from RPA.

“We hope that the above had shed some light on the matter and that any inconvenience and disruption to the businesses in Sibu had not in any way been attributable to the port’s operation,” she said.

RPA gave assurance that the port’s operation will continue to run smoothly and efficiently as always, especially during festive seasons, as an essential service delivery to the business community in this region. — DayakDaily
