14-year-old remanded 5 days to assist in rape investigation

MIRI, April 16: A teenage boy from Tudan Desaras Phase 6, accused of raping a 16-year-old girl has been remanded in custody by the Miri Magistrates Court for five days.

The accused is to be produced in court on April 20.


Magistrate Kashyfurrahman Abang Ahmad meted out the order on Monday (April 15) after hearing a remand application by case investigation officer Inspector Nur Hasanah.

Initially, Nur Hasanah applied for seven days.

The accused had requested the court for a shorter remand period as he is currently still studying in Form Three.

The 14-year-old accused was not represented.

On April 13, at 3.30pm, the girl’s mother, stumbled upon the accused running out off her house.

Prior to the discovery, the complaint was returning from her workplace and upon reaching the house in Tudan Desaras Phase 6 that afternoon, she knocked on the door multiple times, calling for her daughter to open the door. However, there were no response from her teenage daughter.

Then the accused came out, walked pass her and ran away.

Worried, the complainant who is in her 50’s immmediately rushed into her daughter’s room.

Shocking to see numerous ‘love bites’ on the daughter’s neck, the enraged mother immediately lodged a police report.

The accused, who is also living within the area, was subsequently arrested on April 14 to assist a police probe onto the case.

The case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape. — DayakDaily
