14-year-old among drowning victims found after fishing boat accident

The second victim's body was found and carried to SK Long Aton.

KUCHING, Aug 18: A man and a boy reported missing after the fishing boat they were on sunk were found at two different sites near the scene.

The incident happened on Saturday (Aug 15) at 2.30pm when the two victims together with three friends went out on the fishing boat. While they were returning home on the ship, the ship collided against the rocks, causing the boat to be damaged and sunk. The two victims were reported to be missing after drifted away by the strong river current.


Search and Rescue (SAR) had been activated and the 14-year-old victim was found on Monday at 4.30pm, 15 minutes’ away from the scene where the boat sank.

Meanwhile, the 47-year-old victim, upstream River Long Sobeng on Tuesday at 8.50am. SAR team took 1 hour and 30 minutes time to reach the spot where they found the second victim’s body.

The second victim’s body will be carried to Sk Long Aton field first before bringing it to Marudi by BOMBA helicopter. —DayakDaily
