KUCHING, Dec 12: The results of the 2024 Teacher Recruitment Interview (open market) and Sarawak Special Recruitment, announced yesterday, will see over 1,000 new teachers assigned to Sarawak.
In a news report by TVS, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek stated that the Education Service Commission (SPP) offered appointments to 7,645 candidates under both recruitment initiatives, with 1,372 of them placed in Sarawak.
“This has enabled the Ministry of Education (MOE) to achieve a 98.06 per cent teacher placement rate in Sarawak,” she told the august House today.
She was responding to a question from Miri MP Chiew Choon Man regarding measures taken by MOE to address the teacher shortage in Sarawak and the latest updates on efforts to resolve the issue.
Fadhlina explained that this year alone, MOE deployed 13,749 new teachers through permanent appointments and Contract of Service (CoS) arrangements for primary and secondary schools across the country.
“Of this total, 1,697 new teachers have been placed in Sarawak, making it one of the states with the highest intake of new teachers,” she added. — DayakDaily
