KUCHING, May 7: Hock Seng Lee (HSL) will be expecting 1,350 running enthusiasts to gather at La Promenade tomorrow as part of the main event during the La Promenade Fitness Weekend from May 7 to 8.
The running event saw 1,350 sign-ups across four categories: the 21km half marathon, 10km and 5km runs, and the 3km fun run.
HSL executive director Tony Yu said they are thrilled to deepen their relationship with the Kuching and Samarahan community through the largest run since 2019.
“As a new neighbourhood mall, we prioritise community services alongside retailing. So we’re proud to have created the biggest run since 2019, offering subsidised rates from just RM30 per registration and with big cash prizes.
“With relaxed SOPs (standard operating procedures), now is the perfect time to put fitness first,” he said in conjunction with La Promenade Fitness Weekend’s opening ceremony today.
Stakan assemblyman Datuk Hamzah Ibrahim officiated at the ceremony after witnessing the functional fitness championship, which attracted 100 contestants, including gym instructors from Brunei, Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu, Bintulu, and Miri.
Hamzah also stopped by the mall to see Sarawakian mural artist Leonard Siaw’s live exhibition. He is painting a national record-breaking canvas painting, with a size of 15 metres wide and five metres tall.
Like the recent Sarawak Bonsai Open Championship, La Promenade Mall said it would make the fitness weekend an annual affair.
Joining the fitness weekend is Sunway Medical Centre, which will be offering free sports massages and complimentary traditional medicine consultations, and Milo and Greenleaf, who are giving out free drinks.
Tomorrow’s prizes for the run are worth RM10,000 for 21km and 10km winners and a fun ‘Best Dressed’ contest. — DayakDaily
